Cooker Quandary - I Need Help!

So I'm trying to design our new kitchen, and you've seen the style, colours, finishes I'd like to have here, but there's one thing I'm getting really stuck about...

Appliances!

I have always wanted a freestanding oven such as this by Ilve.

They are the focal point and "hero" of all the gorgeous kitchens I love and admire. They just seem to fit with the classic kitchen style I want. It was a fait accompli that I would get one and the whole kitchen would sort of be designed around this. I assumed that as they appeared in all my favourite kitchens they must be great to use as well as look amazing.

That was until I went to the appliance store to do some research and the salesman said "Why would you get one of those? You're much better off getting a wall oven"!

A wall oven??? But they don't look as good, nobody has wall ovens! I've had them before, I know they are practical, cheaper, easy to use, have all the latest whizzbang technology, are self cleaning, you don't have to bend over, kids can't burn themselves, you can get steamers and micro-combo this and that, they practically run your house for you, blah blah blah, but they also take up valuable cabinet space, look too modernly functional and frankly just won't do the job. (He also tried to sell me Induction, but that's a whole new kettle of fish).

So I went back to my inspiration files to see if I could find a dream kitchen that had a wall oven, and to my horror I discovered I had been duped! Upon closer examination many of my favourite kitchens not only have stunning eye-catching statement-making freestanding ovens, but if you look carefully you can see they oh so sneakily have a whole wall of wall ovens as well! They just don't show you very often because it doesn't look as snazzy.

For example, if you look again at this kitchen more closely you'll see to the left of the freestander an entire column of wall ovens!

Even Martha has wall ovens! Now I'm really confused!


So now I'm thinking that in fact the wall ovens are a much better more practical option, and these people just have the freestanding for effect! I'm more confused than ever, because we can't afford the space or budget to have both.

Any advice from those of you who have freestanding ovens? Do you love them? Can't live without them? Or if you're completely honest do you think they are not actually that practical despite looking sensational?
