Hamptons Houses - who lives there?

I have so enjoyed trawling through my old photo albums this past week, dredging up unique and interesting photos for my posts. Usually every photo I take is either on my SD card or my iPhone, so it was a real challenge to have to scour my albums and then actually scan the photos. Apologies in advance if the quality isn't that great.

I did take a very fond trip down memory lane when I was doing the post on Georgica Pond. It took me back to those halcyon days, you know the ones before kids, when I could take off for two weeks and go on a completely self-indulgent and self-gratifying holiday which involved eating in restaurants that didn't have highchairs, drinking from midday onwards, staying in un-childfriendly hotels, spending hours in shops without baskets of tatty toys and driving around looking at houses, for hours and hours. Ah the good ol' days! The days before worrying about the timing of sleeps, children having tantrums in public places, catering for kids on the road, changing nappies in odd places, endless playing of the Wiggles on the car stereo to keep kids quiet, portable DVD players than run out of battery power and send you in a tailspin.....you know the drill.

Anyway, I stumbled upon these photos I took of houses in the Hamptons. Taken in East Hampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton, Georgica Pond and the like. Mostly I just stopped on the driveway and snuck up as far as I dared, so no lovely close ups or interior shots I'm afraid, but a nice catalogue of architecture of the area. I just wish I knew who lived in these houses. I'm so jealous! This is what I call architect envy - I wish we had architects here in Australia who could come up with this kind of thing. Maybe we do, I'd love to meet them. This is great inspiration for our house renovation - I can only hope our house turns out something like these.

The addendum to this story is that it has a happy ending - I'm going back, for a ten year anniversary trip, in August. All by myself! My darling husband is minding the kids for a week and I'm off to the US to do some research, buying, sightseeing and enjoying mum-free time. Yeah - what a lucky girl am I.
