Southside Cocktail

As Hurricane Irene slowly makes her way up the East Coast, we are making our final preparations for our cocktail party this evening.  I'm trying not to focus on the level three hurricane that appears to be heading directly to NYC-the sun is shining today and this evening should be perfect for an outdoor cocktail party. For small gatherings I keep a full bar in my living room all laid out on a pretty silver tray but for tonights party I decided to serve a selection of wine and a signature cocktail and forgo the full bar.  If you go this route make sure to include both red and white wines. I am serving my favorite rose,  a Domaines Ott a Cote de Provence that all the girls love as well as a crisp Sauvignon Blanc and light Pinot Noir.  For the signature drink, I'll be serving a Hampton's classic, the Southside a minty sweet-sour cocktail that is light and refreshing and very addictive. Southside

This drink can be made with vodka or rum but I prefer the taste of rum.

• 1-2 oz white rum


• 1/2 oz Triple sec


• 2 oz Lime juice 


• Ice


• Some Mint leaves


• add all ingredients to blender including one mint leaf and blend. Pour into glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
