Kitchen Update and Inspiration

I'm still trying to decide on some kitchen details, but keep coming across heavenly images which make me confused. I'm definitely having a marble counter top on the island, despite the advice against it. I just can't live without! I'm thinking about having a stainless steel benchtop where the freestanding cooker will go, which means I can trash it while cooking and not stress too much.

Have ordered these taps from Overstock.com, which are a bit of a risk, given I can't find out with any assurance whether they will work in Australia. Although, despite the absurd freight cost, $150 AUD, it still turns out cheaper to get three sets of taps here than buy one set that I want in Australia. Go figure! I really must get into the tap importing business, because if there's anybody else like me, there must be a huge market for this kind of thing.

Have gone with the solid lever handles.

Can't decide whether I like the satin nickel or the chrome basin taps, so have ordered one of each. Then this is the kitchen mixer, which is a great meet in the middle kind of choice, which combines the classic style I like, with the practical and oh so useful pull down mixer that I love. If they don't work, I'll just stick them on Ebay and it can be someone else's problem!

Have found the builder RDJ Constructions, who works with the architect who did our plans, and on his website were some lovely photos of a house they built nearby which is just perfection. I met the cabinetmaker who did this dream kitchen in this house and am hoping he can do the same for me (for a lot less money!). Here's the house in Collaroy which I'm using as great inspiration and a kind of benchmark.

I'm off tomorrow to the US and looking forward to seeing and buying some wonderful things. Will of course be thinking of my little ones and husband while I'm away, but very excited about the trip. I'll try to post on my travels, and keep you updated with some gorgeous inspiration.
