Porch and Pool Fencing - Hello friends Home Improvement, On this occasion I will discuss the article entitled Porch and Pool Fencing, I have provided various other latest articles. hopefully the article that I wrote is useful for you all..
I am thinking about our fences and railings at the moment, because they are currently underway building our decks and front porch it and I know I'm going to be asked to make decisions about details shortly.
I originally thought of doing just a simple vertical timber balustrade. But now I want to do something a little bit more interesting and decorative after I found some lovely inspiration from houses in the US. I just love these details, especially with the gorgeous criss-cross and Chippendale inspired patterns.

Now given that we have the most stringent guidelines and codes when it comes to building and fences in Australia, I thought I'd better check with the local council about what restrictions there might be. I was directed to the Building Code of Australia, which if course you can't simply read online, but have to buy. But the council person told me that it had to be at least 1m high, with no greater than 125mm gaps between posts and no toe holes.
Not to be deterred I asked the carpenters this morning about how we can get around this problem. I came up with the idea of either putting perspex behind the railings or perhaps a narrow gauge wire, so that you can still have the decorative effect from the front, but remove the hazard for young children climbing up or falling through. I have to check with our certifier to see if this will pass regulations, but fingers crossed.
Our strict codes are a great source of frustration for me, especially when I find most of my inspiration and ideas from houses, design and architecture in the US. I see a gorgeous photo of a house and tag it for my inspiration file, then when it comes time to recreating the same thing in Australia I find I can't have what I want because of the codes. Why can they get away with it in Amercia, but we can't here? Do lots of people fall off porches and verandahs in the US? Is there a higher than normal incidence of porch injury there? Why are we so regulated and restricted? Is this a good thing or not?
The same goes for pool fencing. Every beautiful garden and pool I see from the US looks amazing, in part because the lines, layout and design aren't hindered by restrictive and often ugly pool fences. These beautiful, sprawling lawns and gardens with lovely pools look gorgeous, but stick a big pool fence around the perimeter and it won't look quite as appealing.

Now I'm all for pool safety and with little kids, the last thing I want is to increase the likelihood of anybody drowning in our pool. It's nerve-wracking enough having a pool with a solid fence when your kids are outside playing, so I can't imagine the stress of having it unfenced, not to mention the hours of close supervision required. But it makes me very curious that a country like the US would be so relaxed about this. Mind you, Europe is the same. So, I can only conclude that there must be a very high rate of child drownings - and if this so, why don't they have tougher fencing guidelines? It does look pretty, but it's such a hazard and ultimately not worth the risk.
So for our pool fencing, we did consider using glass panels, which can look great although only if they are kept clean, but ours isn't a modern house and cost is prohibitive. So we will have to do the standard cheap metal fencing. But I did see a rather pretty way of doing a pool fence at Bells of Killcare, that wasn't hideously expensive and I think looks very effective. It's simple metal fence but with chunky timber posts to break up the look.

Now I'm not entirely sure this will work for us, given a lot of our fencing will be mounted on timber decks, but it's food for thought.
Thus our article entitled Porch and Pool Fencing,do you like the article hopefully this article can benefit you all.
