House Updates Week...No Idea

After a few hiccups with our staircase they are finally complete and I'm really thrilled. We spent a bit extra getting nice big chunky posts, bevelled balusters and nice caps, but the result made it well worth it. Can't wait until they are painted and I can really see how they will look. We decided to add some timber paneling to the staircase, because there was an obvious join between the new and old gyprock, so I decided to cover it up with paneling and a dado rail. The area beneath the stairs will be gyprocked and turned into storage.

The painters start tomorrow, so I have been frantically trying to pick fabrics and paint colours in a mad rush. Hate that this is being done in such a hurry, because I usually like to do about 50 paint samples and ponder them for weeks on end. Feeling very rushed and a bit stressed about the pressure, but that's probably good as I have to commit and indecision isn't an option. This afternoon on our front verandah was operation paint sample. Between picking up Charlie and Poppy I had about an hour and have never painted 16 paint samples so quickly!

I have had a couple of deliveries from the US this week. About 5 boxes from Shades of Light. I had a quick look and they are fantastic, but had to pack away to keep nice. Also had a delivery of taps from Kingston Brass in the US, haven't opened that yet. My Thibaut wallpaper for the powder room has arrived and it's heavenly. Here's a sneak peak...

Also, I was going to do timber j-joint paneling in the kids' and our bedrooms, but it all got too hard and the skirtings went on first and now it's too late and probably too expensive. So I am thinking of doing this instead, which will break up the wall and give a similar effect. This is my parents' bedroom and they simply had this timber profile and dado rail added. Simple but effective.

I also ordered the Benjamin Moore colour specifiers, using my new shop n ship service. The freight was a bit much, but it's so great to see all those BM colours that we read about on blogs and in magazines all the time. I can reference here and copy with a local paint.

My order from Pottery Barn is here, and I was really pleased with our lovely new mailbox and a couple of simple scones for the bathroom.

Back to my painting and decision-making. Will post some more updates this week, but we are motoring along which is exciting, and thank goodness as we only have 8 weeks until we have to move out.
