The perfect pretty

I mentioned yesterday my urge to pretty up my house. I have been trying to put my finger on what has been troubling me, and I think that's it. I need it to be more feminine, softer, prettier, gentler and more classic. Since the addition of all those dominant dark antiques I have felt a little ill at ease about the way things look in the living areas, and doses of colour by way of fabric, paint and accessories I'm sure will help immensely.

On my prettiness quest I headed to Piggot's Store today in Woollahra, which is the mecca for pretty in Sydney, and found so much inspiration. I wish I had the budget to buy all the gorgeous pieces of beautifully painted bamboo furniture, the Christopher Spitzmiller lamps in heavenly pastel shades and the stunning sunburst mirrors, but sadly until my husband stops auditing the credit cards I can only glean inspiration and try to emulate the look in other more affordable ways. I did however manage to select a some gorgeous Indian paisley fabric for the kid's bathroom blind with matching bathroom accoutrements which made me feel as though I had at least achieved something today.

Here's a couple of the prints I bought on Etsy, in simple white Ikea frames.

I repainted the mirror which was a much creamier colour, and added the darker shade of aqua as a fine border.

These are the pretty bin and canister from Piggot's in the most gorgeous aqua. Nothing like some pretty accessories to jazz up a room and give you a pep in your step.

These are the two fabrics I bought. The larger paisley for the blind and the smaller floral for the lampshades on the sconces. These pretty fabrics were $36/m and they have them in an assortment of delectable colours and patterns.

My husband added the opaque film to the windows, bought on Ebay, because the bathroom looks straight onto the street and it was a bit like being centre stage at a strip show when showering at night.

Now just to get the blind made and the shades recovered and I think that will be another room I can finally tick off. Phew!
