Title : Charlie's Room Reveal
Charlie's Room Reveal
Finally, I managed to get out the sewing machine yesterday and force myself to achieve something which I have been trying to accomplish for about 6 months now. I was never going to get around to having a valance or cushions made by somebody else, so I decided what the heck, have a go myself.
I am by no means a sewer, in fact I can only sew one type of stitch in one direction and if anything goes wrong with the machine I'm stuffed, but thought that if I don't have a crack it will never be done and you'll all abandon this blog because I never got around to showing you the finished house!
So here it is. Charlie's bedroom.
AFTER
BEFORE
This bedroom was a bright canary yellow, as you can see and had a built in robe. We took the space for the robe and incorporated it into the kids' bathroom next door, so I had to buy a freestanding cupboard instead.
The wall was patched over, the room painted, new skirtings added, new carpet, new door, new light, blind etc.
AFTER
I had the bedhead made which I designed based on a style I love from Serena & Lily, and covered in the navy Westbury Vintage Linen in indigo, with the silver nailhead detail. I made the matching valance yesterday with the remnants.
I'll show more details on my cheat's valance in another post - how to sew a valance when you don't really know what you're doing and are impatient and time poor.
Before you ask, the sweet aqua and white polkadot bedspread I bought in a shop in Bowral for our apartment in Bondi when we were living in the country a few years ago. Sadly the shop has since closed. Sorry!
This chest of drawers was bought some years ago from Shack for Charlie's nursery. I added the dark blue border when I did the cupboard. Certainly gave it a lift. It's amazing how much DIY inspiration you can find on blogs worldwide.
This footprint plate we had made in Bath, in the UK when we were visiting my husband's family. Charlie was about 7 months old.
This is an English antique rattle with mother of pearl handle that my aunt sent me when Charlie was born. It's framed in a shadow box.
These prints I bought online from Kindergallery and had them framed. The wall colour is DULUX Duck Egg Blue.
The roman blind I had made using Westbury Regatta Stripe in denim.
The cowboy pillow and doona I bought for Charlie's bedroom when he was a baby. It's from Dwell Studio. Even though we don't live on a farm anymore, the colours still work in this room and it's another item I'm sentimental about.
I made the striped cushion cover yesterday with remnant fabric from the blind.
The bedside table I bought from the Homemaker Centre in Alexandria, NSW from a shop whose name I can't remember. The lamp was from Fantastic Furniture, years ago, which I repainted in a gloss white.
The tissue box I bought as a plain MDF box from Spotlight, and covered it in some stripe remnant fabric from Charlie's last bedroom.
The lampshade is from somewhere like Ikea, and I added the ribbon band on the bottom.
My grandmother gave Charlie this signature bear for his christening in 2007.
This wonderful piece of artwork my husband had made for me for Christmas after Charlie was born. It contains a couple of home pregnancy tests (I think there were about 15 to choose from!), the newspaper announcement from the London Times, an ultrasound image, Charlie's hospital band and photo of him the day he was born. We've had one made for Poppy as well and will do one for Amelia. It's such a treasured piece, I'm very sentimental about it.
The robe from Shack was plain white, and I thought it needed some oomph. So I painted the dark navy borders on the door panels. Will show more details in another post.
The oars I got from the gift fair last year, the wardrobe is from Shack.
The pendant light is from Recollections.
Door nameplate custom-made in the UK.
