The dream home - kitchen

Now that we are gearing up to start our renovation, I am having to seriously think about making design decisions (oh the pressure), whereas up to now I have just been dreaming about them and procrastinating about committing to any one thing. So I have been going through my inspiration folders trying to narrow things down according to the following categories:

1.   those which I absolutely cannot live without, ie marble countertops
2.   those which I really, really want but could probably live without ie walk in pantry
3.   those which would be nice to have, but not life or death ie dishwasher drawers
4.   and those I can probably forgo this time, but only if absolutely necessary ie second sink

Here's the list of finalists in the ALL WHITE kitchen department.....

Now whilst I had always planned on having an all white kitchen, you know the drill....white cabinets, Carrara marble benchtop, glass fronted cupboards, trio of overhead lamps, chrome tapware and drawer pulls, marble splashback tiles, SS freestanding cooker, dark timber floors....my research has opened my eyes to an alternative, and one which I find myself increasingly drawn to - that is, the introduction of colour (gasp!).

So, here are the finalists in the A TOUCH OF COLOUR kitchen department:

Love love love this. Love the patterned tiled floor, the soapstone island benchtop, grey cabinetry, marble benchtops, stainless steel hood and appliances, and that amazing diamond pattern stainless steel splashback. Not to mention little details like the hanging light, tapware and hinges. Just a gorgeous combination of colours, textures, materials and patterns. I'm almost convinced.

Subtle I know, but the soapstone benchtops and exposed beam do give it a lift.

Skye Kirby

Yes, hardly noticeable I agree, but the dark timber island and black granite benchtops ground it and give it some oomph.

Beautiful pale blue cabinets give this simple and classic kitchen a real lift. And that splashback - wow.

That amazing dark stained timber island is a knock-out and makes that otherwise simple and plain kitchen and absolute showstopper!

So there it is - home renovation quandary # 1. Although I have to say I am favouring the introduction of some colour. What the heck - live on the edge! I'll post about the details a little later this week.

What do you prefer  - all white or a splash of colour?
