Title : Island Life - A bygone era
Island Life - A bygone era
I have a passion for all things tropical - I don't mean pina coladas, coconut oil and surfing, I mean the kind of style that harks back to a bygone era of colonial and plantation houses, in places like the Caribbean, the Bahamas and the Orient. The kind of idyllic life India Hicks seems to enjoy. I guess it's no surprise when you see that blue and white feature heavily in this style of architecture and interior design, so it's no great stretch for me I admit. Such as relaxed, casual, easy elegance - a cleverly conceived but seemingly effortless style.
For those of you who remember Stuart Membery, iconic Aussie fashion designer of the 80s (I will never forget my orange and white striped clown overalls teamed with purple leather ankle boots!), you will no doubt have wondered where he disappeared to (or perhaps you've never given him another thought). But I certainly did, when he popped up on my radar last year. He's now living in Bali and designing the most spectacular houses and commercial projects, not to mention the stunning line of furniture and soft furnishings he's producing.
I'm hoping some of this gorgeous stuff will find its way to my place in the not too distant future. Here's a taste.

Fab isn't it! It would go oh so perfectly in my newly renovated coastal house. We're adding a few tropical plants and palm trees in the back garden, so I figure I've got licence to go a bit troppo.
I know Black & Spiro stocks some of the range if you're interested.
